KUCHING, 14 December 2018 - The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) hosted its 8th annual Isthmus Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on 13 December to usher in the festive holiday season.

A group of 85 young children from The Salvation Army Kuching Children’s home and Boy’s Home together with their wardens, as well as corporate clients and media partners were invited to attend the ceremony.

The evening began with a welcoming speech by Mr Eric van Piggelen, BCCK Chief Executive Officer. “On behalf of the BCCK management, I would like to thank everyone here for making time for our Christmas and year-end celebration. BCCK has always been committed to its CSR initiatives and the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is an important event in the centre’s calendar. The festive season is a time of celebration and to give thanks for the many blessings and it is also a time for sharing and giving.”

“BCCK has recently received the honour as the second Convention Centre within Asia to be awarded the AIPC Gold Quality Standards Certification, which is a phenomenal feat for a venue from the second tiered city of Kuching. This comes hot on the heels of BCCK having been confirmed as one of 17 finalists in the 2018 edition of the prestigious AIPC Apex Award competition for “Best Client Rated Convention Centre”. This result is a testament to the commitment and hard work of our team here in BCCK, culminating in BCCK being accorded this award and setting global standards for the business events industry in Kuching Sarawak.”

He further added, “eight of BCCK’s junior chefs took home a culinary diploma, one gold, two silver and four bronze medals after competing in the Sarawak International Culinaire Challenge (SICC) 2018, a culinary competition which saw a total of 130 chefs took part in the challenge displaying their culinary prowess and creation in numerous categories. The junior chefs also won the Challenge Trophy as the overall best team.

To the BCCK management and staff, thank you for your tremendous effort and solid commitment in ensuring the successful hosting of over 160 events and welcomed over 230 thousand guests to the BCCK this year. I look forward more growth next year.”

The ceremony then proceeded with the lighting of the Christmas Tree to mark the start of the Christmas Season. As the tree dazzled with lights, the children from the Salvation Army Home filled the evening with their heartfelt performance of Christmas carols and dance performances, spreading the Christmas cheer and bringing everyone into the festive mood.

The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the Christmas gifts to the Salvation Army children. After the group photos taking, the children and fellow attendees were invited to savour a sumptuous array of the Christmas buffet at the Raintree Restaurant.

Meanwhile, the Isthmus Christmas set course lunch and dinner buffet is now available at the BCCK from 5th December 2018 – 1st January 2019. For reservations or more information, please visit www.bcck.org.my or call 082 -392 988 for the booking and assistance.
