BCCK’S JUNIOR CHEFS WIN THE OVERALL BEST TEAM AWARD

KUCHING. 2 November 2018. Borneo Convention Centre junior chefs had every reason to celebrate when they received a Challenge Trophy as the overall best team at the Sarawak International Culinaire Challenge (SICC) 2018, held at UCSI hotel on 26 – 28 October 2018.

A total of 130 chefs from Miri, Bintulu, Betong, Sarikei and Kuching took part in the challenge, displaying their culinary prowess and creation in numerous categories. “SICC served as a platform to showcase Sarawakian culinary talent and also to promote Sarawak cuisine to the world”, said Datuk Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.

In the individual categories, Erwin Levi clinched a gold medal in the fish and seafood category. Along with the gold, Erwin also won the best professional chef award in the SICC event.

Four bronze medals and one silver medal were garnered by Gabirer Tito, Mohd Shafiq, Rebecca Rikan, Fauzi Bin Mohd Faizal and Afiq. All the dishes were contested under the hot cooking main course category, sub-categories of beef, fish and seafood respectively. Meanwhile the creativity in artful chocolate sculpture leads our pastry team member Chan Ei Jye to win a silver medal in the chocolate showpiece display category, while Bong Kuin Ching earned a Diploma award.

“Sarawak International Culinaire Challenge was a great opportunity for our junior chefs to build and showcase their culinary skills and gain invaluable experience. Their wins will encourage more creations amongst our culinary team as we look forward to taking part in more culinary competitions. We at BCCK strive constantly to maintaining and exceeding our client’s expectations, and to come up with such phenomenal results from our team is testament to this. We are extremely proud of their achievement, and we can’t wait to showcase their winning creations soon on our menus,” continued BCCK Executive Chef Desmond Davies.
