The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) remains committed to adhering to national Halal standards by completing a Halal Assurance System Manual (HAS Manual), providing guests and clients with peace of mind to carry out their events, safe in the knowledge that all products and services are conscientiously vetted and monitored.

Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS) produced their approved Halal Assurance System Manual (Manual Prosedur Pensijilan Halal Malaysia - MPPHM) in mid-2019, as guidance for users on the requirements that must be met for an organization to apply and maintain their Halal Certification, according to the Malaysian Standard MS1500 (Halal Food - General Requirement).

One of the significant criteria set by JAIS is for all HALAL certified organization to have their own set of HAS Manual which will be a complete guideline on its HALAL Policy and standard procedures practised by the organization.

Adhering to the halal certification procedures introduced by JAIS has been essential with BCCK since its inception ten years ago and now the BCCK Halal Committee has created the centre's HAS Manual as a guideline for all policies and staff to ensure halal standards are kept in the centre.

The Manual was drafted based on the MPPHM by BCCK’s Halal Committee, with the guidance and assistance from JAIS Officers.

The team completed the manual on 20th January 2020, spearheaded by the committee’s Halal Executive, Dyg Masnaisa Abg Junaidi, reviewed by committee Chairman Ahmad Rizal Yaman, and approved by the CEO of BCCK, Eric Van Piggelen.

This Manual contains BCCK’s Halal policies in the sourcing for halal-certified suppliers and ingredients, as well as all the required terms and conditions pertaining to Halal Certifications that meets the standards set by JAKIM, the State Department of Religious Affairs (JAIN) and the Islamic Religious Affairs Council (MAIS)

“At the centre of our services provided, we have always emphasised the importance of being a halal venue, so that we can cater to our Muslim customers and their religious obligations,” said Datuk Hajjah Raziah Mahmud-Geneid, Chairman of the Borneo Isthmus Development Sdn Bhd (BID).

Besides HALAL certifications, BCCK has also adopted international quality standards and practices such as ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System in 2014 and HACCP certification in 2012, ensuring the safety, cleanliness and quality of the food it serves.
