THE BORNEO CONVENTION CENTRE KUCHING TURNS TEN

The 10th Anniversary Gala was held on the 27th of November at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), celebrating the centre’s decade of impeccable achievements.

The Chief Minister, Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg, graced the event accompanied by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports YB Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy State Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, as well as the Chairman of BCCK, Datuk Hajjah Raziah Mahmud-Geneid and the Executive Director of BCCK, Tan Sri Wilson Baya Dandot.

During the event, Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari congratulated BCCK on their 10th year anniversary, and lauded the contributions the centre had brought to Sarawak, particularly in international exhibitions and conventions sector and for the centre’s dedication to excellence that has led to BCCK being recognised in globally in the industry as a venue of quality, putting Sarawak in the Global Radar Screen.

BCCK was the first purpose-built venue in Sarawak, designed to host a myriad of events from large conferences and exhibitions, to smaller meetings, within one venue. It first opened its doors in 2009 and has since hosted over 1,800 events and over 2.4 million delegates and visitors.

“BCCK has seen great success over the past ten years, and we look forward to another ten years of success and growth in the international Business Events industry.” said Datuk Hajjah Raziah Mahmud-Geneid, Chairman of BCCK.

Over the years, the centre has positioned itself as an award-winning convention, earning the International Association of Convention Centre (AIPC) Gold Quality Standard Certification, which places the centre in an elite group of only 23 other AIPC convention centres in the world to receive such an honour, out of more than 185 international convention centres.

BCCK’s impact on Sarawak has been substantial, delivering over 266.7 Million Ringgit in total economic impact since 2013, as well as contributing a value of over 92 Million Ringgit to the Sarawak local business-supply-chain network since 2009. BCCK has also directly contributed actively to local CSR causes, partners and charities since 2009.

Datuk Hajjah Raziah also expressed the centre’s pride in its equal and positive partnership with tourism bodies like the Sarawak Tourism Board and the Sarawak Convention Bureau, cementing the fact that BCCK is a direct player in Sarawak’s international Business Events.

In wrapping up the year 2019 and celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching is moving forward towards to another ten years of purpose-driven growth, continued excellence and expansion into the global business events market.

Globally, the Business Events industry has garnered a global value in GDP terms of 1.5 Trillion US Dollar, according to final results of the Events Industry Council, proving itself to be an industry with unlimited potential.

In view of this potential, BCCK looks forward to growing into that potential by expanding its global presence by hosting international and prestigious events, as well as expanding physically as a venue to facilitate more and larger events in the future here in Kuching, paving the way for it to become a cornerstone in Business Events in the region.

As a market leader in Sarawak, the Centre plans on carrying out major upgrades next year, introducing state of the art Audio and Visual technology to its repertoire.
