• Incubating Innovation
  • This is Our Story

Meetings, conferences, events and exhibitions in all their forms are ultimately to serve only one common function. To bring people together, encourage conversation and create connections. Connections that will allow people to create ideas, share thoughts and collaborate.

As organizations around the world seek to be more innovative, and compete more and more on creativity, we approached the question of innovation from a totally unique perspective. Instead of exploring the capacity of an individual alone or in group to innovate, we try instead to identify the spaces that have historically led to unusual rates of creativity and innovation. Places such as the Coffee Houses during the age of enlightenment or the Salons of modernism. Spaces where minds serendipitously come together connect and produce great ideas. And with this in mind, we would like to introduce Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, the unique convention centre. A space created among the tranquility of the tropical rainforest where any distractions that will take focus away from simply being innovative are kept at a distance but yet still easily accessible. Being secluded however does not mean disconnection. The centre is equipped with the latest in communication technologies with wireless internet enveloping the whole area, cutting ledge LAN infrastructure and the latest in Audio/Visual technology to ensure any and all collaboration that happens inside, are widely visible outside. All this to realise the belief we have that collaborative innovation can be at its peak if held in the correct environment. Every part of BCCK is designed to be an environment for the inquisitive. An environment that encourages people to think broadly and generally about challenges and one in which participants can feel free to follow their curiosity. Equally important, it seeks to be an environment where people can connect with each other.

  • Love and Affections Take Centre Stage at The Raintree Restaurant on Valentine’s Day

Pan-seared miso salmon on Japanese rice cake

KUCHING.  29 January 2018. Take heart that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance anymore when it comes to celebrating and honouring love with fine food. At The Raintree Restaurant, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, it is an occasion imbued with love, affections, friendship and the like.

“The spirit of Saint Valentine – of abiding love, affections and friendship – is what we would like to celebrate at The Raintree Restaurant. Our team is looking forward to commemorating this Valentine’s Day with some special treats for diners,“ said Eric van Piggelen, BCCK Chief Executive Officer.

Be it a pair or a group of three, five or seven, the passionate culinary team backed by an impeccable service team at the restaurant will lavish couples, families and friends with a four-course Valentine dinner, priced at RM299.00 nett for every dining pair, while the “odd” diner gets the single portion at RM150.00 nett. All prices are inclusive of the six percent government service tax.

Starters have been designed to include two delectable items: oyster and crabmeat infused in chilled tomato purée and clam chowder glazed with saffron foam and vegetable chiffonade.

Two options of a main course accentuate the celebration: charcoal-grilled Australian rib eye flanked by air dried tomatoes, asparagus spears, cauliflower purée and Sarawak pepper or
pan-seared miso salmon on Japanese rice cake accompanied by asparagus spears, edamame beans and lemon herb butter sauce. Either option promises the diner a delightful choice in terms of what the experienced chefs can deliver with the ingredients and flavours.

An indulgent tres leches cake (light, spongy cake) with fresh strawberry, complemented by tea or coffee, makes for a memorable after-dinner treat.

The Valentine’s Day dinner will be served from 6.30 pm to 10.00 pm. Call The Raintree Restaurant on 082-392 988 for more information and reservations.

The Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair was introduced in 2011 to increase student enrolment into educational institutions. SCAT Fair aims to provide and promote opportunities for the youth and school leavers to further their studies, undergo training and seek job opportunities.

The BCCK had a chat with TEGAS Chief Operating Officer Awangku Merali Pengiran Mohamed to find out how the Centre had contributed to the event organisation process and the SCaT Organising Committee’s experience in hosting the event at BCCK.

What were the deciding factors that led to BCCK being chosen as the venue for the aforementioned event?

BCCK’s ample spaces enabled us to tailor the spaces to meet the requirements of the various activities.

What were the challenges/concerns involved in organising the event?

This year’s edition of SCaT Fair was held on weekdays; hence the number of visitors was lower. The other concern was the accessibility of the venue to the public.

What was the most rewarding experience/aspect of the event?

The event went smoothly – thanks to the concerted efforts carried out by both the organizer and BCCK.

How has BCCK helped your organisation in organising the event?

The BCCK team was very much part of the organizing process, assisting our organising committee in any possible ways.

What else can BCCK do to accommodate your future event organisation needs?

All the requirements were duly met by your centre. Since this was the 4th SCaT Fair held in BCCK, BCCK was already fairly well-versed with the requirements of the event, which made it easier for our organising committee to make arrangements.

Was there a particular incident/service which impressed your committee and yourself? If yes, please elaborate.

It was impressive that BCCK could do a very quick turnaround for the night event (Sarawak Fashion Award & Youth Got Skills), considering that this was our first time having night activities for SCaT Fair. Good job!

If you could describe your event organising experience with BCCK in 5 words, what would they be?

The overall experience was pleasing and the BCCK team was accommodating.

SCaT Fair 2016Awangku Merali Pengiran Mohamed, TEGAS Chief Operating Officer

“The BCCK team also gave us sound advice to plan and execute the event in the most effective and efficient way. … The culinary team managed to accommodate a last-minute request for food and beverages to be served to the media people.”- Puan Hajah Norashikin Datuk Haji Ismail, Chief of Secretariat, SL1M

SL1M was launched on 1 June 2011 by the Malaysian government to enhance the employability of unemployed graduates through exposure in industry, based on workforce requirements, and to prepare them for future employment opportunities.

The BCCK spoke with Chief of Secretariat, SL1M Puan Hajah Norashikin Datuk Haji Ismail to find out how the Centre had assisted the SL1M Organising Committee in the event organisation and their experience in hosting the event at BCCK.

What were the deciding factors that led to BCCK being chosen as the venue for the aforementioned event?

BCCK is the only convention facility in Kuching with state-of-the-art facilities. The BCCK team is noted for their excellent service. We knew that our event would be in good hands and that the organising work would be executed professionally.

What were the challenges/concerns involved in organising the event?

The main concerns being the distance from town and the air-conditioning in the Hall might not be able to cater for large crowds. The venue would be better served with public transportation services.

What was the most rewarding experience/aspect of the event?

The opening ceremony went very well including the orchestra performance for the delegates. There was a huge turnout especially on the first day.

How has BCCK helped your organisation in organising the event?

Your centre eased our organising work by providing attractive rates and facilitating the payment arrangement. The BCCK team also gave us sound advice to plan and execute the event in the most effective and efficient way.

What else can BCCK do to accommodate your future event organisation needs?

We wish to maintain the collaboration with BCCK. The superb service and attention from your sales team accommodated our requirements.

How is BCCK different from other venues?

BCCK’s excellent service and facilities make it the preferred venue.

Was there a particular incident/service which impressed your committee and yourself? If yes, please elaborate.

The culinary team managed to accommodate a last-minute request for food and beverages to be served to the media people.

BCCK quickly initiated the donation of the surplus packed food to the children’s homes to avoid wastage when the university students did not turn up to take their food as planned.

If you could describe your event organising experience with BCCK in 5 words, what would they be?

BCCK stands out for its friendly team, excellent services and facilities.
